Taylor Photo Brochure- Designing a big look for a small business
Overview

Well known Princeton, New Jersey photo studio and lab Taylor Photo came to
Dragonfly looking for a quality marketing piece. Because of their many different
services, they needed something flexible. Currently, Taylor Photo's marketing
materials have a "we do everything" approach. Professional photography
has been given a backseat, even though it brings in the most billings. Most
of all, the design had to be top notch. Bad design would equal bad photography.
Challenge
Dragonfly had to sort through hundreds of transparencies and CDs produced by
Taylor Photo. The chosen photography had to reflect the broad range of subject
matters they are known for in the industry, have a consistent color scheme,
and a similar tone. But the piece could not present Taylor Photo as a 'jack
of all trades' photographer. Their lab services such as development, Photoshop
work, and digital prints needed to be incorporated. Included in the marketing
piece would be a flexible price list that can be customized without appearing
to be an afterthought. And Dragonfly needed to complete all of this on a low
budget.

Solutions
Synthesizing all of this, Dragonfly designed and produced a multi-page brochure
highlighting the photography of Taylor Photo. The focus was placed on Taylor's
specialty with architectural photography as the lead images. Smaller portrait
product shots were included in the layout, and the images worked together as
a design unit. They worked with a smaller sheet size to incorporate two brochures
on a press sheet to save printing costs. A pocket on the back cover was created
for sample sheets and price lists. Dragonfly designed a matching price sheet
and 8x10” glossy sheet so Taylor Photo could customize the sheets themselves,
allowing flexibility to the piece. This allowed sales reps to present a custom
package to their client while maintaining a cohesive design. And included at
no extra charge were customized 5-color business cards done on the print sheet's
unused extra space.
Results
The marketing piece put Taylor Photo's photography on to a whole new level.
The design brought out the quality of their work in a professional way with
flair. Lab services were worked into the layout as a value-added service, which
gave a fuller impression of Taylor Photo's wide range of expertise. Reaction
was so good that the initial print run of 5,000 ran out within months. Truly
a dazzling debut.
