PRICING A WEB PROJECT
One of the most common questions we receive is 'how much will a website cost?'. Many Web shops will quote a site based on page numbers, others will base their pricing on which software you purchase and include design for free. With our experience, we feel that no two sites are the same, and therefore no standard system is very effective at accurately estimating the time/costs of a Web project.
Dragonfly uses a proposal estimate for each project. This involves learning all we can about your project up front, and asking key questions to best understand your expectations. Often, we quote tasks in price ranges, because projects tend to grow in size as clients learn about how a Website can change their business.
Most companies request proposals based on functions or page count in order to put competing agencies on a level playing field. Unfortunately, there are so many variables involved, that going by price alone isn't always accurate. The last thing you want is a company that tries to raise their prices mid way through a project, which can happen when a project is estimated too low. We feel that when you're looking for an agency, and cost is a major issue, it's best to start with a set budget and use that number to compare competing proposals. This way, you can see what kind of value you get for your money, and put everyone on a level playing field.
We recommend to start the process with this technique. Once you find a good mix for your needs, and good value for the budget, then go back and ask about other features of interest. Sometimes, one feature can be much simpler than you anticipated, especially if a database is already in effect. Our 11+ years experience helps us guide clients to solutions that fulfill their needs, and even some they thought they couldn't afford.
